This is an new book from PIE publishers, whom I just love. Their books are consistently outstanding - beautiful images, always full page and well shot, and the books are well bound and sturdy....this one is no exception. It boasts 400 pages of full color illustrations of women in Japanese art. Includes early ukiyo-e as well and more recent works. The ladies features are in traditional dress....It is a treasure chest of kimono, hair, face and body positions....not to mention the uncountable small details that can help you take your own artwork from good, to epic. This collection is a must have. Text is in Japanese except the index, which lists the titles in English.

This book is awesome. It is a beautiful hardback filled with Japanese adverts from the 40's and 50's. It boasts 192 pages of imagery with an index in the back in English and an afterward on the development of posters in Japan by Natsuko Tajima. This book is excellent for anyone interested in Showa era (WWII) Japanese imagery. Rife with beautiful demure women, in tune with that period, this book is a good resource for artists and designers alike.

Takabatake Kashou's Ladies

This is a great book for faces. Kashou does amazing Showa era ladies and his work is prolific. His illustrations have a very distinct style and those collected in this book depict women in many positions and performing a variety of tasks...making this a great little reference book on Japanese ladies. This is a beautiful collection of photos by John Foster called 100 Views of Maiko and Geiko, and it is exactly that. 100 photos of Kyoto's legendary geisha. Beautiful colors, elaborate costumes and hair that does not move...ever. Awesome. I have had a lot of request from customers for Geisha reference books and this is the best one I could find. It includes 100 full page, full color vivid photos of different Geisha -with names indexed in the back of the book. Text is minimal and in both English and Japanese.
